About Trip

MERA PEAK AT A GLANCE:

Elevation: 6,476m

First ascent: 20 May 1953

Prominence: 1,063m

Location: Hinku Valley

Mountain range: Himalayas, Mahalangur Himal

MERA AS A TREKKING PEAK:

Mera Peak is the highest of Nepal’s co-called 'trekking peaks'. At 6476m it requires some technical climbing skills while the summit day is long and demanding, requiring a lot of energy. Clients need to be comfortable moving on a man rope, clipping in and maintaining an efficient pace and a safe line. They also need to be familiar with walking on crampons and be able to self-arrest with a walking axe. The high camp provides experience of camping on snow.

ACCOMMODATION ON THE MERA PEAK CLIMBING TREK

Accommodation on the trek, before and after the actual climb of Mera Peak, is in lodges run by local families. Each lodge has a central communal area with stove while the bedrooms are unheated and equipped with two beds and mattresses, blanket and pillows. The lodges generally have hot showers powered by gas. Some use the old ‘drop’ toilets, though most have flush systems now. At Mera Base Camp and High Camp tents sleeping two persons per will be used.

MERA PEAK ITINERARY
Search Treks uses the 2-15-2 model for this trip: 2 days in Kathmandu—15 days on the climbing trek—2 days in Kathmandu.
